I Cangianti "Confine" Skin Contact 2021

I Cangianti is a relatively new winery founded by the Stoppini brothers, Luca and Matias, in 2019. Located on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, the winery is dedicated to producing natural wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. The vineyards are situated in the Montepulciano region of Tuscany, while the cellar operations are nearby in Umbria. The brothers have a strong commitment to organic and biodynamic farming practices, ensuring that their wines are produced sustainably and with minimal intervention.

The 2021 I Cangianti "Confine" is a skin-contact white wine (aka orange wine!) made predominantly from the San Colombano grape, with a small percentage of Verdello. This wine undergoes a maceration period of 4-5 days on the skins, which imparts its distinctive color and tannic structure. The wine is then aged for 6-8 months in a combination of vitrified concrete and inox steel vessels, allowing it to develop complexity while maintaining its fresh and vibrant character.

This skin contact wine offers a deeply layered and unique aromatic profile with notes of apricot marmalade, burnt orange peel, and white flowers. On the palate, you can expect flavors of mandarin, lemon curd, and a hint of rock salt, with soft tannins and a medium-bodied texture. This wine is unfined, unfiltered, and produced without any added sulfites, making it a true expression of natural winemaking.

Pair this wine with rich, creamy cheeses like Brie or Camembert. It also complements seafood dishes such as grilled shrimp or scallops, and its citrus and apricot notes pair well with roasted poultry and Mediterranean-style salads. Additionally, this wine can be enjoyed with spicy Asian cuisine, where its fresh and juicy profile helps balance the heat and spices! Cheers!
