Hailing from Vietnam, this single-grain expression is a stunning masterclass in heritage grains and ancient fermentation techniques, bringing an entirely new flavor profile to the global whisky stage.
Crafted from 100% unpolished heirloom glutinous purple rice, the grain is inoculated using traditional Vietnamese bánh men (a historic starter culture akin to Koji). Sông Cái utilizes a complex, multi-phase fermentation before distilling the spirit in direct-fired pot stills and a traditional wood alquitar. The real magic, however, happens during maturation: the whisky is aged in American oak barrels that were seasoned with sweet purple rice wine (71%) and yellow rice wine (29%).
