Mersel Leb Nat Gold Pét Nat

LebNat Pét Nat Gold is a vibrant, refreshing, sparkling wine from Mersel Wine, an iconic natural wine producer in Lebanon’s historic Bekaa Valley, one of the world’s oldest winemaking regions. Viticulture here stretches back more than 6,000 years! Now, that’s history. The valley’s high altitude, abundant sunshine, and limestone soils create ideal conditions for grape growing.

Mersel Wine was founded in 2002 by winemaker Eddie Chami. We had the pleasure of meeting Eddie in 2022, when he came to visit Flask & Field. Eddie is a force unlike any other. His deep passion for winemaking in his home country of Lebanon electrifies everyone and everything around him. You can feel this energy in every sip of LebNat Gold. He focuses on organic farming and indigenous Lebanese grapes while challenging the historically French-influenced wine traditions of the country. Instead of imitating European styles, Eddie celebrates local identity and ancient grape varieties such as Merwah, a native Lebanese grape once grown on the terraces of Mount Lebanon alongside olive and fig trees.

LebNat is a pét nat (pétillant naturel), meaning it’s produced using the ancestral method, where the wine is bottled before fermentation finishes so the remaining sugar naturally creates gentle bubbles in the bottle. The result is a lively, slightly cloudy sparkling wine that captures both freshness and history!

Fun fact: Eddie’s wife Michelle Chami, the co-founder of Heya Wines, founded by two moms who sought to represent and appreciate women who work hard in a male dominated industry to produce something they love. Heya Wines are extremely small production and allocated, so if you ever see it on our shelves, we highly recommend you take it home!
