Johan Vineyards 2021 Murmuration
Johan Vineyards 2021 Murmuration
A murmuration is a flock of starlings moving as one, swirling and shifting in perfect harmony and this blend of Cab Franc and Austrian varietals from Johan Vineyards moves with just as much grace as its namesake. Johan is a biodynamic estate in Oregon’s Willamette Valley known for its commitment to regenerative farming, native yeast fermentation, and minimal intervention in the cellar. Every bottle is a reflection of the land it comes from.
The 2021 vintage is delicate, lifted, and gloriously alive. It’s fermented with native yeasts and aged in neutral oak, allowing the varietal’s pure, expressive character to take center stage. On the nose, you’ll find wild raspberries, rose petals, and just a hint of crushed violets. A subtle green edge—think fresh herbs or green peppercorn—adds dimension without overpowering. On the palate, it's light to medium-bodied but full of nuance. There’s bright acidity, soft tannins, and a kind of earthy, savory thread that runs through the wine and keeps you coming back for another sip.
Murmuration is a red for slow evenings and thoughtful pairings: mushroom risotto, roasted beets, grilled salmon, or even a cozy night in with a good book. It’s the kind of wine that doesn’t demand attention, but rewards it.
