Emme Wines "Sun Egg" White 2024
Rosalind Reynolds of Emme Wines is one of the rising stars of Northern California’s natural wine scene. A dedicated organic grape grower and minimal-intervention winemaker, Rosalind has been crafting expressive, community-driven wines under her own label since 2018. Her work reflects the collaborative nature of winemaking, celebrating not just the final product, but the shared efforts of vineyard crews, cellar hands, and the broader wine community that make each bottle possible.
‘The Sun Egg’ is a unique expression of Muscat Vert - though Rosalind herself notes the grape’s true identity might be up for debate. Grown by Aki in Northern California and named accordingly, this variety stands out for its subtle aromatics - more restrained than classic Muscat, but more lifted than Colombard or Chenin. The fruit was pressed directly, settled overnight, then fermented in stainless steel before aging for six months in both stainless and neutral oak.
This produces a fresh, quietly aromatic wine with vibrant acidity, gentle texture, and a distinct sense of place. Made with indigenous yeast, no fining or filtering, and only a small addition of SO2 (30 ppm total).
The label nods to The Sun Egg, a beloved children’s book by Swedish author Elsa Beskow - an ode to wonder, discovery, and the simple joy of finding something special in the woods.
