René Bouvier Gevrey-Chambertin 2022
René Bouvier Gevrey-Chambertin 2022
A classic village Gevrey made from three different plots of 50-year-old vines! The soils are stony with gravel which brings finesse to this red and dark fruited wine, some structure but with rounded tannins and a fresh lifted finish. There's a beautiful woodsiness on the nose, almost autumnal. It's not an oak barrel aroma, but a forest aroma. The fruit quality is darker and more earthbound, too, like eating blackberries in the shade.
Bernard has refined his winemaking so that his Gevreys are now some of the most precise expressions of terroir that one can find, along with very fine fruit flavors and sensual tannins. Velvety with a touch of salinity on the palate, this is structured and supple with very good depth and a long juicy finish.
This is textbook Gevrey-Chambertin! Elegant, earthy, and built to age but approachable now.
