Abbazia di Novacella’s Kerner is a bright, energetic white wine from the Valle Isarco in Alto Adige, Italy’s northernmost wine region, where the vineyards sit at high elevations on steep, mineral-rich slopes. Made by the monks of the Augustinian Canons Regular monastery of Neustift, this wine comes with serious pedigree: the abbey has been making wine for over 850 years!  The cool climate and dramatic mountain setting help produce white wines with incredible freshness and precision.

Kerner, a crossing of Riesling and Schiava grapes, thrives here. This version is dry, medium-bodied, and bursting with bright acidity. It opens with super fresh notes of peach, lemon, green apple, and grapefruit, followed by a touch of tarragon and a clean, stony minerality that lingers on the finish. There’s a lot going on, but it’s all beautifully balanced; zesty, refreshing, and easy to love.

It’s also a food-lover’s dream! The crisp citrus and herbal notes make it a natural with spaghetti carbonara, grilled shrimp or scallops, and goat cheese. Basically, if your meal needs a lift, or if you just want a white wine that’s lively and a little different - this is one to reach for.
