Valerie Forgues VDF Rouge Icône

Valerie Forgues VDF Rouge Icône

I don’t know how else to say this but this wine is perfect. We may not drink a lot of Pineau d'Aunis generally, but it’s a grape variety native to Touraine. There is also a touch of Cabernet Franc and Gamay. Valerie’s 16 hectares of vineyards are 100% certified organic, hand harvested and commercial yeasts have been banned from the cellar. She is NOT here to make friends. And thank God! Good wine comes from crazy psychotic attention to detail. These winemakers are absolute perfectionists. And lucky for her, everything is just right on her precious land: clay-limestone soils in the heart of the Cher Valley in the Touraine region of the Loire. This wine is light and vibrant with structure and exuberance! It has loads of red and dark fruit, balanced with organic potting soil, savory elements and peppery spice. It’s the journey you want to be on. Serve chilled and pair it with spicy rigatoni (think Carbone NYC!), Totino’s pizza rolls (think Costco!), or Peking duck!
