Ultreia Saint Jacques Red Wine

Saint Jacques Ultreia is a distinguished red wine crafted by renowned Spanish winemaker Raúl Pérez in the Bierzo region of Spain. Primarily composed of the Mencía grape, this wine showcases the unique terroir and winemaking traditions of the area.

The wine is predominantly made from Mencía grapes, sourced from old vineyards planted between 1900 and 1940. These vines are situated on diverse soils, including clay and sand, contributing to the wine's complexity. In addition to Mencía, the blend may include small amounts of other local varieties such as Alicante Bouschet, Trousseau (Bastardo), and Palomino, reflecting the traditional field blends of the region. 

Raúl Pérez employs traditional winemaking techniques to produce Saint Jacques Ultreia. The grapes undergo fermentation in large oak vats, with a significant portion fermented as whole clusters. The must remains in contact with the skins for an extended period, often up to two months, before being pressed into neutral barrels for aging, typically around ten months. This approach enhances the wine's aromatic complexity and depth. 

Saint Jacques Ultreia is celebrated for its vibrant and expressive character. Tasting notes often highlight:
