Frank August Bourbon CASE STUDY: 02 XO PX Brandy Cask

Β

CASE STUDY: 02 | 1948 is the second release from Frank August's 'Case Study' program, aimed at redefining and evolving the identity of bourbon whiskey through innovative finishing and blending techniques. This particular release involves bourbon finished in 10 exceptionally rare brandy casks that were first filled in 1992 with aged Pedro Ximenez sherry for 17 years, then refilled with extra old Pedro Ximenez from 1948 and aged an additional 13 years. After three decades of meticulous aging, these casks arrived in Kentucky still 'wet' and were immediately filled with hand-selected barrels of Frank August Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. The bourbon was monitored closely, tasted every 30 days until achieving the ideal taste and flavor profile. The resulting bourbon features a deep auburn color with viscous legs that cling to the glass. The nose opens with aromas of baked peaches and dark chocolate, followed by emerging hints of allspice and oak. On the palate, it starts sweet with a subtle spice that builds, revealing a well-balanced mix of fruit, spice, and brown sugar with a rich, warming viscosity. Notes of brandy are present but restrained. The finish is full and bright, warm, and beautifully balanced at 101.0 proof, with a medium length that lingers just enough to make a lasting impression. This release showcases Frank August's commitment to producing uniquely experimental and distinctly flavorful bourbon expressions.
